We’re very excited to collaborate with Bailey Constas for a hands-on lake pigment and textile painting workshop! If you have ever wondered how plants and natural materials can be transformed into pigments for painting on paper or fabric - this workshop is for you. In this session, we’ll learn step-by-step how to create lake pigments from natural dye baths, then use these handmade pigments to paint and decorate cotton bandanas. This will be beginner-friendly with all materials included. Plus we will take a break to enjoy complimentary refreshments and pastries from Heritage House. Together, we’ll explore: ❀ How plants and natural materials are transformed into pigments ❀ The process of creating natural dye baths and converting them into lake pigments ❀ How alum and washing soda are added to dye baths to create flocculation, transforming soluble natural dyes into insoluble pigments by bonding them with inorganic materials ❀ How to combine pigment paste with a binder and vinegar to create textile paint suitable for fabric We’ll be working with pre-scoured cotton bandanas, so you can jump straight into painting and decorating. Bailey will demonstrate a variety of painting techniques and share ideas to inspire the direction of your piece. You’ll leave with a completed hand-painted bandana and a take-home packet instructions to create at bran bath to help seal and finish your creation! Bring friends or come meet new people! Secure your spot by RSVPing and Venmoing (@MaryPat-Abruzzo). Tickets are non-refundable. Follow @meetatmuneca for future events!
