The day of thanks must be a day of tribute.
As we gather around the table with our kin and clans, surrounded by the abundance of earthly gifts, there is too often little recognition or realization of what has been served on our privileged plates. With each lift of the fork, we choose to feast from the cornucopia of consumption: savory & sweet delicacies that have us indulge rather than inquire. Can spoonfuls of sugar & spices continue to blind us from the harvested truth? Even the knife doesn’t cut deep enough.
For it’s under the plates, below the table, and beneath our soles where we’ll find the crops of our cultivation. Here is where the roots of the roast guide us away from our lips and towards what our hearts have truly been craving. Community. Candor. Creed. Our satisfaction will not be fulfilled by the substance we eat, but rather by the souls with whom we share it.
Our plates shall be the portals into what connects and nourishes us: the convergence of gratitude, from the nutrients in the soil to the hands that tilled it. Without the proper tribute, a feast’s lack of intention only leads to contention. To gather around the table means to share a piece of ourselves with others, an opportunity of reciprocity to give and receive the most important ingredient: truth.
So on this day of feasting, let us come together to emancipate from the old tradition of ignorance and create a new one of awareness. One that acknowledges, honors, and celebrates what has happened in order for us to share this present moment together, truthfully. A tradition that fosters unity and harmony, to bring us closer to those that share the same ancestral decree.
So keep on digging. Find the roots. They will lead us to our truest selves. That is what gathering around the table is all about: to be in communion and celebration with those who desire authenticity and austerity; the only path for the posterity of the people.
