Walkthrough & Talk: Bridging Culture and Design

Together, we’ll walk through the space, discussing the curation and narrative behind each piece. Alma and Sergio will share their inspirations, design process, and the significance of celebrating Mexican-American heritage in their work. Gain insights into crafting culturally resonant experiences and the role of space in fostering connection and dialogue.
This event is part of SF Art Week and is perfect for designers, artists, and anyone passionate about cultural representation in the arts. Don’t miss this chance to learn, connect, and be inspired.
EL LISTÓN CAFÉ is an art and design group exhibition that will portray a spectrum of testimonies informed by the duality and/or communion of two worlds within a coming-of-age experience: One world is deeply rooted in Mexican heritage and culture; the other in an American childhood and adolescence.
The artistic interpretation of these personal journeys will be told through a mixed array of mediums such as fashion, furniture, art, and objects by 11 California-based Mexican-American artists/designers, and curated by Of Threads’ co-founders Alma Jimenez Lopez and Sergio Mondragón.
While primarily centered on Mexican-American perspectives and lenses, El LISTÓN CAFÉ’s mission is to invite viewers of all backgrounds, especially those international or immigrant, to reflect on the interplay and coexistence of American cultural upbringing and original heritage.
Visit us at Glass Rice, 808 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94109.
***OF THREADS is an art-design curatorial collective founded by Alma Jimenez Lopez and Sergio Mondragón that celebrates the work of Mexican American designers and artists in the United States. Through their curatorial efforts, they investigate the deep connections between multiple generations, the blending of Mexican heritage and the American experience.
OF THREADS dedicates itself to expressing the multi-layered narrative, presenting them truthfully as they have been experienced, woven and interlaced like threads. Just as cultural traditions are passed down and adapted, stories of resilience, migration, and family are shared, OF THREADS seeks to recognize the totality of the Mexican-American identity via contribution within the contemporary art and design canon.
