MycoSymbiosis — 3-Day Mushroom Cultivation Intensive
A complete, hands-on immersion into home-scale and small-farm mushroom production, led by William Padilla-Brown. This 3-day course is designed to give you the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to integrate fungi into your home, homestead, or regenerative farm system.
Each day runs 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Includes a 1-hour provided lunch featuring mushroom beverages, extracts, and seasonal foods.
What We Cover (Culture → Fruiting)
This workshop walks you through the full mushroom lifecycle using accessible, low-tech, and replicable methods:
Day 1 — Lab Skills + Culture Work
Understanding fungal biology & cultivation theory
Sterile technique and lab setup
Making and pouring agar
Cloning mushrooms & starting cultures
Clean transfers, expansion strategies, and maintaining culture libraries
Day 2 — Grains, Substrates & Spawn Production
Preparing grain spawn
Hydration, sterilization, and contamination control
Low-pressure pasteurization barrel system for bulk substrates
Building low-cost, scalable setups for home & small farms
Inoculation workflows for efficiency and consistency
Day 3 — Fruiting, Harvesting & Applied Mycology
Fruiting chamber designs (budget → mid-scale)
Environmental parameters (FAE, humidity, temp, light)
Species selection for your climate & goals
Troubleshooting, contamination diagnostics, and dialing in conditions
Integrating mushrooms into permaculture systems & agroecology
Harvest, processing, and value-added mushroom products
