On September 6th from 6PM-10PM, Queer Arts Featured is thrilled to present the opening of the historic Wet Paint Fundraising Silent Auction to the public! This auction is the culmination of our exhibition that presented the former film projection screen of The Castro Theater, generously gifted by Another Planet Entertainment, as a blank canvas for the community to make art on. Over the course of ten weeks, hundreds of locals and visitors from around the world expressed themselves creatively on this canvas, leaving an incredible collaboration of images, messages, and embellishments that honor the history and collective experience of nights spent in the theater watching movie magic projected on what has become the most spectacular living art piece. The pieces up for auction are creations from this show and works from our incredible artists, made directly on the screen by our community. In addition, Queer AF salvaged a number of the original floorboards from the theater. These old growth pine boards, well worn by time, have been renewed and transformed by hand into stunning frames for thirteen of the works up for auction. This evening will mark a historic event celebrating the past of our beloved theater, the present of our collective voice, and the future of Queer Arts Featured as a beacon of connection and creativity for all in The Castro. Please join us to experience the magic and support a vital space in the heart of our beloved neighborhood.
