College Admissions 101 Virtual Workshop

This workshop is designed to help students, parents, and families better understand the college admissions process. We’ll break down key components including building a balanced college list, admissions requirements and timelines, standardized testing, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation. Attendees will also learn what colleges look for in applicants and how to begin preparing at each grade level. Whether you’re just starting or looking for clarity on next steps, this session will offer practical guidance and tools. Facilitator: Anna Martinez is a college access professional with extensive experience supporting diverse students and families. A Barnard College graduate, Anna has worked as a College Advisor, College Counselor, and College Counseling Chair at a Title I charter school and holds a Master’s degree from NYU Steinhardt. She has presented at NACAC conferences, partnered with The College Essay Guy on webinars focused on advising undocumented and mixed-status families, and served as an international application reader for UC Berkeley. Currently, she works at Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science, and Engineering and approaches counseling through a student-centered, equity-driven lens.
