Join us for the opening of After Image, the second solo exhibition by LA-based contemporary painter Fiona Dowdee. An afterimage is a visual impression that remains after the original source is no longer present, a moment when our vision continues to hold onto something that has disappeared. Dowdee uses this physical phenomenon as a psychological metaphor, exploring how relationships, love, fear, trauma, guilt, desire, and memory can leave lasting impressions that shape how we experience the present. Through bold color, repetition, transparency, distortion, and recurring imagery, figures and forms overlap, dissolve, and fade in and out of reality. The work gives physical shape to the emotional residue we carry, questioning the reliability of perception and examining how the past can resurface, repeat, and color what comes next.
