Queer Faith: In Action is a dinner/speaker series, presented in partnership with City Church SF, bringing together intergenerational LGBTQIA+ folks and allies to explore the intersection of queerness, the practice of Christianity, and social justice in order to empower faith-driven activism. Queer Faith: In Action featuring Bishop Yvette Flunder moderated by Thomas Igeme. Enjoy a delicious meal prepared by Chef Grant as we commune together over dinner before learning from the speaker. Doors at 5pm Dinner served at 5:15pm -------- Bishop Yvette Flunder, a San Francisco native, has served her call through prophetic action and ministry for justice for over thirty years. This call to “blend proclamation, worship, service and advocacy on behalf of those most marginalized in church and in society” led to the founding of the City of Refuge United Church of Christ in 1991. In 2003, Rev. Dr. Flunder was consecrated Presiding Bishop of The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries, a multi-denominational coalition of over 100 primarily African American Christian leaders and laity. Rev. Dr. Flunder is on the Board of Starr King School for the Ministry and DEMOS and has taught at many theological schools. She is a graduate of the Certificate of Ministry and Master of Arts programs at Pacific School of Religion, and received her Doctor of Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary. She is also an award winning gospel music artist and author of Where the Edge Gathers: A Theology of Homiletic and Radical Inclusion. Thomas Igeme is a queer, Black immigrant originally from Uganda who grew up in Kenya. For over 17 years, he has made the Bay Area his home, bringing a deeply intersectional lens to his work in faith, leadership, and social justice. As Founder and Managing Director of TL Partners, a talent and leadership management consulting firm, Thomas applies his expertise to causes he cares about, serving on the boards of FACES SF, Envision Education, and as an elder at City Church San Francisco. Thomas is passionate about the transformative power of faith communities to pursue justice, welcome those pushed to the margins, and live out radical inclusion. In particular, he works to amplify the voices and experiences of LGBTQ+ Christians navigating faith traditions that have not always welcomed them. Whenever he is able, Thomas is honored to be in conversation about faith that liberates, heals, and brings all of who we are to God’s table. -------- Sliding Scale Tickets Available!
