Chicago-based trumpeter and composer Zachary Finnegan makes his long-awaited New York City debut with his celebrated ensemble, The Timeless Quintet, at The Speakeasy. The group brings Finnegan’s signature blend of cinematic textures, modern grooves, and classic jazz lyricism to life in two intimate sets exploring the enduring beauty of the jazz tradition. The Timeless Quintet pays homage to the greats while reimagining the canon for today’s audience. Their repertoire, featuring Zach's original works based off of the jazz lineage and arrangements of songs such as My Favorite Things, Invitation, When You Wish Upon a Star, and many more, showcases the ensemble’s ability to weave nostalgia and innovation into a seamless, captivating sound. The all-star lineup includes: Zachary Finnegan – trumpet & leader (Michael Bublé, KNOWER, Clint Breeze & The Groove, Alan Gresik Swing Orchestra, Chicago Freedom Ensemble) Markus Howell – alto saxophone (Count Basie Orchestra, Roy Hargrove Big Band, Michael Bublé, Just In Time) Julian Davis Reid – piano (Isaiah Collier, Chance the Rapper, Jennifer Hudson, Derrick Hodge) Zwelakhe-Duma Bell le Pere – bass (Arooj Aftab, Nduduzo Makhathini) Luther Allison – drums (Samara Joy, Ekep Nwelle, Jazzmeia Horn, Ulysses Owens Jr) Known for his “golden tone and excellent technical command” (All About Jazz), Finnegan has rapidly become one of the most compelling new voices in jazz. Since joining Michael Bublé’s band in 2022, he has toured on five continents, performing at iconic venues including Madison Square Garden, London’s O2 Arena, and Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena. His debut album, Guidance & Gratitude (Shifting Paradigm Records, 2024), earned international acclaim for its depth, beauty, and musical maturity. Beyond his touring work, Finnegan’s artistry thrives in collaboration. His trumpet has been featured with KNOWER, the Buddy Rich Big Band, and Clint Breeze & The Groove, and as a bandleader he has headlined premier jazz venues across the country, from Winters Jazz Club and Andy’s Jazz Club in Chicago to The Chatterbox in Indianapolis, Cafe Coda in Madison, Berlin in Minneapolis and Mr. Tipple’s in San Francisco. For this NYC debut, Finnegan brings together a powerhouse quintet whose collective experience spans the worlds of modern jazz, soul, and contemporary improvisation. Together, they’ll transform timeless standards into cinematic soundscapes, balancing deep swing and emotional storytelling in a night that bridges tradition and the present moment.
