This book club is dedicated to reading and discussing Black literature across generations, from foundational classics to contemporary works. Each month we explore a different writer whose voice has shaped or is shaping the landscape of Black storytelling. The goal is to create a thoughtful space for conversation, connection, and deeper engagement with the breadth and depth of Black literary art.
The reading list was chosen to bring together a range of Black literary voices, balancing widely recognized classics with influential contemporary work. The selections span different eras, themes, and styles to give the group a fuller sense of the depth and variety within Black writing. We will begin with Kindred by Octavia Butler, a novel that offers a powerful entry point into the conversations we hope to build throughout the year.
