On Saturday April 25th, we'll take to the open streets for NYC's Car-Free Earth Day in conjunction with migratory bird season, reveling in the green spaces, public art, and birdwatching hotspots of Manhattan and Brooklyn. FYI this is a 12+ hour stroll spanning 10+ miles, and you are free to join us at *any* point along the way πŸ™Œ We'll also be crashing a free birding tour through Central Park from 2-5pm, which you can sign up for here if you plan to join for that leg of the hike: https://tasteofscience.org/new-york-events/2026/4/25/flying-high-with-the-birds-64cy4 All RSVP'd "yes" and "maybe" attendees will receive a link at 10am to my realtime location for the entire hike, along with my phone number, so you can see exactly where we are on google maps. If you text me when you plan to join, we can keep an eye out for ya πŸ€— ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 🌿 About Hyggehiking 🌿 Hygge means "a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being." "Hyggehiking" is my own special blend, where we engage in that conviviality while trekking through green spaces throughout our city. I host Hygge gatherings so we can come together to make new friends, discuss fun projects we're eager to work on, dive into deep, thoughtful discussions, and meet people who can help make NYC feel like a smaller, closer-knit community. We bring our friends, family, coworkers, anyone we think would enjoy spending the day alongside a variety of curious souls. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸ—ΊοΈ ITINERARY πŸ—ΊοΈ Here's my Google Maps list of the places we'll pass by: https://maps.app.goo.gl/JGSYXug2SvwXF58z9 🚏 10am-10:30am β€” Georgie's Cafe LES 🚏 10:30am-11:30am β€” Seward Park, Manhattan Bridge 🚏 11:30am-1pm β€” Brooklyn Bridge Park (ft. nature walks & hands-on crafts) 🚏 1pm-2pm β€” Brooklyn Borough Hall ➑️ Engineer's Gate @ Central Park 🚏 2pm-4pm β€” Central Park for 'Flying High with the Birds' free educational tour (tix here: https://tasteofscience.org/new-york-events/2026/4/25/flying-high-with-the-birds-64cy4) 🚏 4pm-5pm β€” Hallett Nature Sanctuary 🚏5pm-6pm β€” 6 & 1/2 Avenue, Bryant Park, Herald Square Park, Madison Square Park, Union Square Park 🚏6pm-7pm β€” Time Out Market Union Square 🚏7pm-8pm β€” Catbird Mural, Tompkins Square Park, Washington Square Park 🚏 8pm-10pm β€”Β The Chai Spot (for earth day and bird themed zine making) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸŽ’WHAT TO BRINGπŸŽ’ β€’ comfy walking shoes β€’ sun protection β€’ cash β€’ friends πŸ₯° ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ πŸ‘‹πŸΌABOUT YOUR HOSTπŸ‘‹πŸΌ I'm Steve Dean, admirer of nature, denizen of the internet, steward of social and technological ecologies, dating industry consultant, and relationship coach.
