Hollow Sounds is a survey of seven emerging photographers’ perspectives on quiet in contemporary photography. Insistent upon regulating time, labor, and bodies, late capitalist society imparts a haunted outline to images of inaction, always suggesting an obligation beyond and unease within their borders. Although these scenes often evoke silence, the act of capturing an image necessarily weaves a soundscape of human imagination through the quiet. Featuring work from Sophie Bennett, Samuel Harris, Jessica Lee, Alina Fresquez Patrick, Shina Tser-shiuan Peng, Brandon Cotto Rivera, and Haley Soares, Hollow Sounds argues for the value of visuals as catalysts for generating subjective worlds of sound. By embracing the sonic limitations of photography, these artists construct worlds that shut out the noise just beyond the borders of their images.
Live music will be provided by Discount, Chammeili (duet), DJ Buffy Wang, and DJ Dado. $5-15 at the door (nobody will be turned away), and all donated proceeds from the show will be given directly to the artists shown. Hope to see y’all there!
