The Hidden Performance Tax of PMS in the Workplace

Most high-performing women have learned to work around it. The two weeks of brain fog, mood dysregulation, fatigue, and physical symptoms that arrive every month like clockwork, and disappear just as quietly. They push through. They reschedule. They apologize for things that aren't their fault.
What they haven't been told is that this has a name, a mechanism, and a cost.
PMS and PMDD affect an estimated 3 to 8 percent of women of reproductive age at the clinical level, and up to 13 to 18 percent experience symptoms severe enough to impair function without meeting the full diagnostic threshold. The economic impact is estimated at $4,333 per woman per year in lost workplace productivity. And the last meaningful clinical innovation for this condition was the birth control pill in 1960.
This panel brings together founders, clinicians, and women with lived experience to have the conversation that workplaces, investors, and the healthcare system have been slow to have. We'll explore the emerging science, including the gut-hormone-brain axis now being studied as a key driver of premenstrual symptoms, what it means for women's performance and careers, and why this is one of the most underfunded and overlooked opportunities in women's health today.
This is not a wellness panel. It is a business, science, and human conversation about a condition that affects half the workforce.
PANELISTS:
— Roma, Founder & CEO, Pinkmatter — biotech scientist, PMDD advocate, and builder of the first gut microbiome based platform for PMS and PMDD
— Cat Duff, Podcast Host & Former Marketer — PMDD advocate bringing the lived experience and consumer perspective
— OBGYN (TBD) — practising physician and Pinkmatter practitioner partner, bringing the clinical lens on how PMS and PMDD are (and aren't) being addressed in practice
— TBD — founder in tech
FORMAT: Panel discussion followed by Q&A and networking reception
DURATION: 90 minutes
ATTENDANCE: ~50
AUDIENCE: Femtech founders, investors, operators, women's health professionals, press, and high-performing women navigating these conditions personally

WHY THIS EVENT FOR TECH WEEK:
The economic cost of untreated PMS and PMDD is measurable, significant, and almost entirely absent from the workplace conversation. As women's health becomes one of the fastest-growing investment categories in tech, this panel puts the science, the founder building solutions, and the clinical expertise in the same room as the investors and operators who can accelerate change. The performance tax framing makes this a business conversation as much as a health one, and that's exactly what Tech Week audiences are here for.
This event is a part of #NYTechWeek—a week of events hosted by VCs and startups to bring together the tech ecosystem. Learn more at www.tech-week.com.
