Come one, come all: to the upcoming Songbuilders’ Soiree! This one-of-a-kind gathering welcomes inspiration, vulnerability and spontaneity, and celebrates SONGS, communal self-expression, and the joy of being alive.

After a sold-out "Unlucky in Love" show (Valentines’-meets Friday Feb 13th) at the Cantab Underground, this Soiree is themed around Spring! Though a Saturday night, it’ll be more “unplugged”, featuring a sweet four-piece band — notably with some hand-percussion, and no electric guitars. Songwriters will bring songs foregrounding their interpretation of the theme: perhaps hope and new beginnings, and perhaps some April Showers & May flowers. Maybe an April fool’s song? We won't know until we're there!
For those of you that haven’t been to a Soiree Before… it’s hard to explain -- but here it goes:
🎶EVERYONE in the audience is an improvising Choir!! (That's you!)
👩🎤Songwriters* bring up a song and have FIVE minutes to teach it to the improv house-band, music directed by Nate Shaffer on keys.
then TEN minutes to rehearse it to the crowd.
Have no fear, the whimsical and inquisitive Maya Bialik (no, not the host of Jeopardy) will be conducting the audience.
then… an ecstatic semi-improvised, slightly rehearsed and mostly transcendent rendition of this song — made for and by you! Yes, this might be the most fun you’ve had since being in a musical at 15 years old. No, you don’t have to take a solo. But exuberant self-expression is welcomed.
We include newcomers and experienced Soireeliens alike: from pros to people who don't identify as musicians or singers! Believe it or not, this will be the 14th soiree since December 2023. 🤯
The Rooted Cafe at the Armory features a delicious menu of substantial snacks, and a wide array of non-alcoholic drinks.
