The Art of Activism: How Creativity Changes the World Every movement that ever changed the world had artists at the front of it. Before the law changed, someone wrote the story. Someone picked up a brush, a pen, a camera — and refused to look away. Art has always been how we wake each other up. United For Humanity presents a live, unscripted afternoon about the creative act as a form of courage — and the people who've spent their lives using art and media to move the world forward. Come early to experience original works on display from our featured artists. We'll open with an intimate fireside chat with two remarkable artists: 🎨 Dellis E. Frank — an East LA-born fiber artist and 20-year arts educator whose social-justice work transforms materials bound for the landfill into powerful statements on equity, identity, and the environment — a practice she calls "the greening of fine art." 🎨 A. Laura Brody — artist, curator, and founder of Opulent Mobility, who transforms wheelchairs, walkers, and reclaimed materials into breathtaking works of art that reimagine disability as opulent and powerful. Then we'll move into a panel conversation with two people who've proven that creativity is power: ✨ Jay Levin — founder of LA Weekly, who built it into the largest urban weekly in the country and took on entrenched power through fearless journalism. Today he champions emotional intelligence as the next great social movement. ✨ Melissa Flores — Director of People & Programs at Arts for LA, who trains the next generation of arts advocates and has helped build a movement 700+ leaders strong.
