Dearest Community,
Poetry is not a luxury, according to Audre Lorde. Rather, it is the skeleton architecture of our lives.
This June, we hope to create with you a poetic architecture in service of Palestine, and in service of a radical Asian American poetics. Bring your poems of love, and resistance, and freedom. Whether your own or another's. Let us make legible to ourselves the architecture of our community. Let us find each other, and the pulsing heart of who we are. Of what we stand for. Let us cultivate anew our sense of ourselves.
We are learning, like you, that there is more to be done to build architectures of love and resistance than we had ever previously imagined. Let us embrace this challenge. Let us come together to care for one another with our words. And let us leave, knowing there is much to be done. Knowing we might just be able to do such things together.
May each word we utter be towards our care for one another. May we never settle for anything less.
Bring a poem to share, or simply come to listen. We will gather until all poems have been read, and then have a short discussion and mingle. Vegan, nut-free, gluten-free snacks and drinks provided. 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, June 29th, 2024 {address with RSVP} in Oakland; wheelchair accessible (we can assist with non-automatic doors and parking, please inquire); mask required.
In Solidarity,
