📍 Aspen Grove Trailhead
⏰ Meet: 4:15 AM
🥾 Start Hiking: 4:45 AM sharp
We’ll begin beneath the light of the Harvest Moon and hike into sunrise before making our way to the summit.
Costumes
Costumes are highly encouraged but not required.
Come as Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Boromir, Arwen, Éowyn, Saruman, a Nazgûl, an Orc—or create your own traveler from Middle-earth.
Whether your costume took six months to build or six minutes to throw together, you’ll fit right in.
The Hike
* ~13.5 miles round trip
* ~4,900 feet of elevation gain
* Strenuous
* Plan on 8–12 hours
This is a challenging alpine hike. Please make sure you’re physically prepared before signing up.
Parking
Aspen Grove does not require timed-entry reservations, but this is expected to be an extremely busy weekend. A full moon, a Saturday, and peak fall hiking season will likely mean a full parking lot before sunrise.
Please carpool whenever possible and arrive early. If you have extra seats or need a ride, use the event chat to coordinate with others.
What to Bring
* Headlamp (required)
* Plenty of water
* Food and snacks (second breakfast is encouraged)
* Warm layers
* Rain protection
* Hiking footwear
Group Photos
We’ll take a Fellowship photo before we start, stop for photos throughout the hike, and gather for a large summit photo overlooking Utah Valley. It would be great to have a dedicated photo and videographer. Please reach out if interested.
A Few Things
This is an informal community meetup—not a guided or commercial hike. Everyone participates at their own risk and is responsible for their own transportation, equipment, preparation, and safety.
No Dogs- While dogs are allowed on trail, they can cause aggression in mountain goats. For the safety of your dog and the group, we ask to keep your precious friends at home.
Please respect other hikers, follow Leave No Trace principles, and help make this a fun experience for everyone.
