BGIAS St. Louis, we hope to see you soon!!!
Join our lovely BGIAS hosts, Amira Harris, Alyssa Farmer and artist Sydney Oreoluwa for a guided tour of Circa 1998, a solo exhibition by Sydney Oreoluwa. This meetup will take place on September 28th from 5PM-7PM. Tell a friend to tell a friend!
ABOUT EXHIBIT:
Circa 1998 is a series of film photographs and pixelated paintings that explores the relationship
between art, nostalgia and delayed gratification. The process of creating Circa 1998 involved
capturing experiences on film, using paint and design to reveal the complexity and simplicity of
these moments. These works encouraged the artist to slow down and embrace the process of
delayed gratification, while also paying homage to nostalgia.
This exhibit invites viewers to reflect on the joys of their own nostalgic moments, to consider
nostalgia as a source of comfort, healing, and a bridge between the past and present. The series captures the essence of simpler times, serving as a reminder of the importance of preserving these memories in our fast-paced world.
It offers a collective pause, celebrating the beauty of remembering and the power of art to evoke
and immortalize the fleeting moments that shape our human experience.
ABOUT ARTIST:
SYDNEY OREOLUWA is a Nigerian-American multidisciplinary artist and curator born and
raised in St. Louis, MO. Her contemporary artistic practice merges the realms of art and design
to document nostalgic experiences through film photography and abstract painting techniques.
