We are eager and delighted to announce our BXposed Artist for the month of June – Lenny Medina! My Roadmap of Portraits exhibition is a black and white film photography series that explores Lenny Medina’s method of creating uniquely intimate portraits of both loved ones and close mentors throughout his long creative journey. This photo series is merely a snapshot of his decades long work of documentary and portraiture photography as Lenny’s plethora of cameras have captured the essence of thousands of subjects and muses coming from all walks of life. The exhibition also features a few artworks that Lenny created in the darkroom as he unveils for us his talent for harnessing the alchemy behind darkroom printing – his signature retro-style that could never be replicated. Lenny Medina is the founder and creative director behind Retrolenz Photography, a Bronx-based photography brand that excels in visual storytelling and portraiture photography with an emphasis on highlighting individuality and cultural expression throughout each creative project. Deeply influenced by the rhythm and resilience of growing up in The Bronx, Lenny’s body of work quietly blends together both raw emotion and refined techniques behind the camera lens. The Bronx photography community values his role as an educator who continues to impart his knowledge of analogue and digital photography practices onto both the youth and seniors particularly through his role as Darkroom Manager at the Bronx Documentary Center. Lenny is also admired by our Bronx community for his work with the Department of Education as a school photographer who has photographed 10,000+ students throughout various school districts with the utmost care and respect as he lends his talents towards shaping the way future generations of Bronx students value their self-image. Please join us for the opening reception on Monday, June 22nd from 6PM - 8PM at the Andrew Freedman Home and enjoy this incredible portrait series that truly values the essence of each person in front of the lens. The BXposed Artists series is a monthly rotating exhibition that provides a platform for both emerging and established Bronx based artists to exhibit lens based artwork here in their own borough.
