A solo gallery exhibition by Maxwell Tsao + a multidisciplinary performance series featuring artists across poetry, live music, theater, dance, performance art, and more. MY BONDS TASTE LIKE CARDAMOM AND BLUE is an evening exploring human bonds in their many forms — the relationships we form with other people, our communities, ourselves, and the world around us. Connection can be beautiful, painful, absurd, fleeting, comforting, destructive, transformative, or all of those things at once. Rather than trying to arrive at one answer about what our bonds mean, the evening brings together different artists and perspectives on how we experience them. ✦ THE GALLERY · 5:30–9 PM My solo exhibition brings together a new body of work across painting and mixed media. Through my own experiences with human connection, the work explores transience, memory, belonging, anxiety, attraction, sacrifice, self-image, and the strange ways people leave marks on one another. Come anytime from 5:30–9 PM to explore the gallery. Please note that entrance will be timed and limited between 7-8pm for the Art Bath. ✦ THE ART BATH · 7–8 PM At 7 PM, the gallery will transform for an hour into an intimate multidisciplinary performance. I think of an art bath as a mindful variety show meant to serve the audience: artists working across different disciplines contribute individual perspectives to a shared emotional experience. The evening will feature poetry, live music, theater, dance, performance art, and more, with work by @paintmaxwell, @brianacostaarya, @icetrey12, @officialruairi, @kaosarts and additional artists and collaborators. Each artist has been invited to interpret human connection on their own terms. Their work approaches the theme through different experiences and perspectives rather than trying to tell a single story about what connection should mean. The point isn't for all of us to agree. It's to put these different experiences of connection in the same room and see what happens. ✦ CAPACITY & ENTRY During the gallery exhibition, we expect guests to cycle through the space throughout the evening. If we're at capacity (~50 people) when you arrive, you may be asked to wait briefly until space opens up. We also ask guests to be mindful of others waiting to experience the exhibition. If seeing the performances are important to you, please arrive well before the 7 PM start time. RSVPs help us anticipate attendance, but DO NOT reserve a spot or guarantee admission. There are no reserved seats Come for the paintings. Stay for the performances.
