A Seasonal Gathering with Echos of China Ensemble × Ivy Hermit
Summer Solstice (夏至) marks the longest day of the year — when light lingers longest, heat accumulates, and the senses become unusually alive. Scent, wind, humidity, insects, the slow shift of dusk: all of it more perceptible, more present.
This gathering takes that heightened state as its starting point.
音愈会 (Music and Healing) is an ongoing seasonal series by Echos of China Ensemble, exploring seasonal perception through Chinese traditional instruments, voice, and listening as shared practice. Ivy Hermit joins this edition to weave tea into the sensory arc — not as refreshment, but as part of the work itself.
The experience unfolds with a guided sensory walk through Prospect Park, inviting participants to attune to scent, temperature, wind, and the surrounding soundscape before arriving at the listening site. In Chinese, 道 originally means path; the walk is the first movement.
The listening portion centers on guqin, voice, and environment — a continuously shifting field where instrumental sound, breath, insects, distant urban resonance, and summer air gradually fold into one another. Three cold brews mark the journey: Jasmine Raw Puer opens through fragrance and airiness; Dragonwell Echo arrives as attention settles into summer clarity; Ripe Puer grounds the close as dusk approaches. The musical arc follows the seasonal movement from 徵 toward 宮 — expansion, then return.
More than a concert. A way of experiencing summer through all the senses at once.
Duration: approximately 90 minutes.
Please arrive on time. The walk is part of the experience. Exact meeting location will be sent out via email prior to the event.
Rain date: June 27, 2026. In the event of rain, the gathering will be postponed one week. A notification email will also be sent if the event is postponed.
