1. Aaron, why do you throw these parties?
These aren’t JUST parties, this is an effort to build community for Am Yisrael in the diaspora.
These are also reminders to not let fear stop us from dancing. Not to forget how powerful it is when we come together. Joy is radical. Joy is resistance.
2. Okay, but why are these parties always about Israel?
ALL Jews, no matter where their ancestors lived in exile, are from Israel. Yes, even you, fellow Ashkenazim.
Our indigeneity, not religion, defines and unites us. For 3000 years, we have been Am Yisrael (“the nation of Israel”), not Am Yahadut (“the nation of Judaism”).
That’s why these parties celebrate Israeli culture — to create a safe space for Israeli Jews, help non-Israeli Jews connect with their nation’s culture, and build bridges with our non-Jewish allies.
