Hi friends,
The fight against the Save Our Bacon (SOB) Act is entering a critical stretch, and I want to share where things stand.
Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Senator Boozman has set a target of late June for the farm bill markup. That's when committee members debate, amend, and vote on the bill. While SOB won't be in the original text — a win we can build on — several senators have already signaled they intend to introduce an amendment to put it back in. Things are heating up over the past several days alone—from columns in the Washington Post and New York Times, to state-wide commercials airing in Arkansas, Iowa, and Kansas.
The next few weeks will determine the fate of our country's farm animal laws — and whether we'll ever be able to pass meaningful new protections in the future. In short, the most critical moment legislatively for animals in U.S. history.
