We’re closing this year’s Central American Futurities conference with a celebration of music, culture, and community.
On April 12, during Settlement Day, which marks the occasion when the Garifuna people first landed on Roatan, after being exiled from St. Vincent, we will be celebrating the life and legacy of Aurelio Martínez, revered as the most important musical ambassador of the Garífuna Nation.
Hosted by CAUSA and Central Americans in Music and Entertainment, this closing event will feature a special DJ set by TROOKO — a Grammy award winning Honduran producer known for his work with Residente, Bad Bunny, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bomba Estéreo, and many others — who will play a special set featuring his own work and a curated selection of Aurelio’s music by Derrick Martínez, Aurelio’s nephew, bass player, and tour manager.
