Hole-y Summer: Free Repair Workshops at Sew Loka
Hosted by Claudia & Gaby ยท Sponsored by the William Male Foundation
Got a favorite shirt with a hole in the elbow? A pair of jeans worn through at the knee? A stain you've been meaning to cover for two years? Bring it to Sew Loka this summer.
Over three months, we're hosting a rotating series of four free workshops โ each one a different technique for turning damaged clothing into something you'll actually want to wear again.
Adults 18+, all skill levels welcome, no experience needed. Just bring a piece of clothing from home that's seen better days (it doesn't need an actual hole โ stains, thinning fabric, or distressed areas all work).
๐งต Thursdays, 6โ8 PM
๐ Sew Loka, 2113 Logan Avenue, Suite B, San Diego, CA 92113
๐ฅ 15 spots per workshop ยท waitlist available
๐ Free, thanks to the William Male Foundation
A quick heads-up on a few things:
๐ Waiver at check-in. We'll have a short liability waiver ready for you to sign when you arrive โ takes about 30 seconds. Standard stuff for any workshop with sewing machines and sharp tools.
๐ธ Photos for the 'gram. We usually take photos during workshops for Sew Loka's social media. If you'd rather not be in them, just let Claudia or Gaby know when you arrive โ no problem at all.
๐ If you can't make it, please cancel. Because spots are limited and we always have folks on the waitlist hoping to get in, please cancel as soon as you know you can't come. A no-show keeps someone else from learning a skill they were excited about. Just hit cancel or send us a quick message โ no hard feelings, we just want to fill the seat
Workshop 3: Cyanotype Patches
Dates: June 18 (Thu) ยท July 23 (Thu) ยท August 20 (Thu) ยท 6โ8 PM
๐ Holy Summer #3: Cyanotype Patches
Cyanotype is the sun-printed, Prussian-blue process that gave us those dreamy botanical photograms from the 1800s โ and this week, we're using it to make one-of-a-kind patches to sew over the holes in your clothes. You'll arrange lace, trim, transparencies, your own traced designs, or whatever else catches your eye onto chemically treated fabric, let the San Diego sun do its thing, and walk out with a patch nobody else in the world has. Claudia and Gaby will show you how to attach it cleanly to your garment using a sewing machine.
Bring: a piece of clothing you'd like to patch (any fabric, any color). We'll provide everything else โ chemicals, fabric, thread, machines, and small natural objects to print with, though you're welcome to bring your own.
Heads-up: the cyanotype solution is mild but does involve light chemical exposure. We'll provide gloves, and if you've got sensitive skin or known chemical sensitivities, just let us know at check-in so we can set you up safely.
