Amy Yurkanin is a reporter for ProPublica covering health care and criminal justice in the South. Much of her work focuses on the impact of policies that grant legal rights to fetuses on the health and wellbeing of families and communities. She has written about the criminalization of pregnancy and court intervention inside the delivery room. She lives in Birmingham, Ala. with her family and two cats.
