Start your LA Tech Week on the right note.
This event will explore the idea that human judgment is the last moat in a world where algorithms can be copied, datasets shared, and most tools look all the same.
Dr. Garrett Pendergraft, Blanche E. Seaver Professor of Philosophy at Pepperdine University, will join governance expert Vera Cherepanova, Executive Director of Boards of the Future, to unpack how human responsibility protects value, mitigates risk, and differentiates companies in the eyes of investors and boards.
The program will begin with a short talk framing today’s key ethical challenges in AI, governance, and autonomy, followed by an interactive conversation with the audience and networking.
Topics include:
• The AI “responsibility gap”: who is liable when things go wrong?
• How can founders and boards preserve human agency while scaling automation?
• How do we build tech that protects human dignity?
• Turning “human-in-the-loop” from compliance cost to competitive edge.
Schedule:
• 4:30 pm – Arrivals with refreshments
• 5:00–6:15 pm – Program + interactive conversation
• 6:15–6:45 pm – Networking reception at Malibu sunset
