Blazing into the Year of the Fire Horse 🔥🐎, SF Movie Nights presents a Lunar New Year special screening of “The Joy Luck Club” in the historic Great Star Theater in Chinatown ⋆。°✩ THE FILM ˙✧˖ 🎬⋆ “The Joy Luck Club” (1993): Four Chinese immigrant mothers and their American-born daughters bridge generational divides using stories of their past—and the Mahjong table. Based on the novel by Amy Tan and directed by legendary SF director Wayne Wang, the film broke barriers by focusing on the nuanced, intergenerational relationships between Chinese immigrant mothers and their American-born daughters.  Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRd9nL4Eh18 🎙️ CO-HOSTS Joe Talbot is Director of A24 / Sundance winner “Last Black Man in SF” + 5th generation San Franciscan. Amy Lee is a Chinatown native and co-founder of nonprofit Dear Community. Michael Lai works on AI for good by day and SF politics + community by night. Mark Young is a San Francisco community builder and film advocate, and co-founder of the Film SF Alliance.
