Join us for a 3-hour beginner workshop focused on learning the basics of mending and giving your clothes a longer life!
100% of the proceeds from this workshop will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
The workshop will be split into two parts:
Part 1: Learn the Basics
We’ll start by learning a few beginner-friendly mending techniques, including:
Sewing on a button
Repairing a split seam
Patching a hole using visible mending
We’ll learn through a combination of a short lecture, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. You’ll be able to follow along using sample materials provided during the workshop.
Part 2: Open Mending Time
After learning the basics, you’ll have time to put your new skills to work! Bring along a piece (or pieces) of clothing you’d like to mend and we’ll help you get started. Several volunteers will be circulating during this time to answer questions and offer guidance. Light snacks and drinks will be provided.
What to Bring
Bring 1–2 pieces of clothing that you’d like to mend! Items with small holes, loose seams, or missing buttons are great projects for this workshop. Feel free to bring multiple items if you’d like to work on more than one project.
If you’re not sure whether your item can be repaired using the techniques we’ll cover, email me a photo ahead of time at KJ@KJfightmasterdesign.com and I’d be happy to take a look!
If you don’t have anything you want to repair, there will be supplies to continue practicing more advanced techniques. Everything you’ll need to participate will be provided.
