When the Paberbill Playhouse—a beloved New Jersey community theater—is on the brink of closure, a charismatic director and self-proclaimed descendant of The Music Man's Meredith Willson arrives with grand promises to save the theater. But after his true identity is exposed, he vanishes, leaving the cast in chaos. Without a director or rights to the musical, the ensemble must write an original show from scratch to avoid a lawsuit from Sam French himself. Enter The Sound Guy.
Told through the lens of a student filmmaker documenting the process, The Sound Guy is a heartfelt and hilarious portrait of scrappy theatermakers, improvising their way through an industry reluctant to evolve.
