Join us for the March East Bay Permaculture Guild potluck—our "on" month with programming, connection, and a chance to honor a beloved community space.
NOTE: We encourage guests to arrive at 5:30pm if possible this month. This month's meeting focuses on garden design of the Oakland Peace Center and coming earlier will allow folks to see the site and start their visioning process in the daylight (sun sets at 6:05pm).
Monday, March 9, 2026 6-9p
What to Expect
6:00–6:30 PM: Potluck (bring a dish to share, label allergens)
6:30–8:30 PM: Community skillshare/workshop (topic TBA—we're co-creating this one!), announcements, and open space for project pitches and connection
This Month's Meeting:
Garden Design Charette, and collaboration with the Oakland Peace Center
Are you interested in Edible and Native/Pollinator Garden Design? Do you have experience with garden design, bay area planting seasonality, or are you curious about such things? Then make sure to come to our next meeting, where we will be discussing an awesome collaboration the Guild has with the Oakland Peace Center (OPC)!
Background: OPC has a number of garden beds around their property that are in need of some attention. The Guild has been given the opportunity to create a vision for these spaces and implement that vision over the course of the next few months. Produce and herbs from this garden will go to non-profit organizations that are tenants of the OPC which will distribute them to the food insecure folks that they serve.
What is a charette?
A permaculture design charrette (pronounced "shuh-ret") is an intensive, collaborative workshop where a group of people works together to quickly generate a design for a specific landscape or project.
In the permaculture world, it is often used to "crowdsource" wisdom for a specific site—like a backyard, community garden, or even a larger farm—by bringing together multiple perspectives to solve design challenges.
This month we're also taking a moment to celebrate and grieve the closing of a PLACE for sustainable living (People Linking Arts, Community & Ecology), which served as a hub for permaculture, community organizing, and mutual aid in Oakland for 15 years. PLACE hosted countless EBPG gatherings, skillshares, and work parties—it was a living example of what we're all building toward.
Supporting PLACE's Transition:
PLACE is decommissioning through the end of February and needs volunteer help with sorting, cleaning, and salvage runs. Donate to their transition fund: https://gofundme.com/f/the-transition-of-place
