At this zine night, we'll be making small 8-panel zines where each page holds a portrait of you drawn by a different attendee! Kinda a hybrid speed-friending/doodle night, led by zinemaker and ASL interpreter Kelsey Hammack :-)
Her work gives her a unique perspective on facial expressions, which we're really excited to have her share with our arts & humanities club.
We'll bring printer paper to draw on, but it would be helpful if you could bring scissors (if you have some at home)! Please also bring a pen, colored pencils, or other dry media (no paints, please - we have limited space/seating).
Kelsey and I will have extra art supplies on hand for those who forget, just in case! And nametags + cute stickers :-) Can't wait to see you all soon
See you all soon~~ π

β¨ About Us β¨
This event series is a project by Difficult Friends, a non-profit Austin arts & humanities club organizing free events for the public. 501(c)(3) baby!!!
https://www.instagram.com/difficultfriends/
We empower young Austinites to tackle Difficult ideas and projects. Our core values are: creative growth, intellectual challenge, human connection, and civic imagination.
Our events are designed as fun intellectual workouts and creative experiments. We host workshops and discussions that push Austin residents to think harder thoughts, make cooler stuff, and connect more deeply across their human differences.
Meaning is Difficult! Embrace the Difficult!
πβ¨ Statement of Welcome & Inclusivity β¨π
Difficult Friends is an inclusive community space, and we particularly seek to protect and welcome our LGBTQIA+, queer, transgender, and nonbinary members. Event attendees may be asked to share their preferred pronouns and will be asked to respect the preferred pronouns shared by other participants. Women, immigrants, people of color, religious minorities, people with disabilities, and neurodivergent folks seeking a diverse community are also especially encouraged to attend!
β¨ Photography Policy β¨
The event organizers of this meetup may take photos or videos of our events and upload them to social media. By attending this event, you consent to being filmed and photographed. (If itβs Rachel, donβt worry - she will airbrush any blemishes & imperfections xoxo)!
