Pay what you can

This month we’re reading Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Following the spiritual themes of last month’s book, we dive deeper, and go to the motherland. Achebe wrote this as a response to European writers who had told the African story for years, and told it wrong. Things Fall Apart takes place in Nigeria and follows the story of Okonkwo, a man stuck between tradition and change, fate and free will, and the colonial forces closing in around him. Flow for the afternoon: ∙ 4:00–4:30 — Arrival, getting settled, free flowing conversation ∙ 4:30–5:15 — Guided group discussion ∙ 5:15–6:00 — Open discussion, mingling, and free flowing conversation The book club is and will always be free. We’re offering a pay what you can option for anyone who feels moved to contribute. Every donation goes directly toward building more intentional gatherings for this community. We document these gatherings in photo and video. Some of it becomes content. Some of it becomes print. By attending, you’re okay with appearing in that work. If you’d rather stay out of frame, just tell us at the door.
