Unplug from the screen, grab a glass of wine or mocktail, and step into the timeless art of bookmaking! Long before printed paperbacks and e-readers, books were lovingly crafted by hand - - - and learning how to make them is just as fascinating as reading them. Join us for a cozy, creative evening with our special guest co-facilitator Christy, who will take us on a journey through bookmaking history. Discover how traditional books were constructed, why historical techniques evolved, and the secret craftsmanship behind classic volumes. Then, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get hands-on! You’ll learn step-by-step techniques to create 2 styles of custom books from scratch (a simple folded single-sheet book and a hand-sewn 80-page hardcover book + plus a bonus accordion book if time allows! What’s in Store: -The History & Story: Journey through the origins of bound pages, traditional stitches, and historical materials with Christy. -Hands-On Crafting: Learn true hand-binding methods using premium papers and traditional tools. You’ll leave with at least 2 finished, custom books! -The Wax Seal Station: Give your creations a royal finish! Experiment with our wax seal station, featuring 6 custom stamp designs and a vibrant rainbow of sealing wax. -Journal in Community: Take some time to journal in community on your intentions for the rest of the year. -Wine, Bites & Good Vibes: Sip wine and sample delicious local Chinatown appetizers while you craft, chat, and relax. No prior crafting or bookmaking experience needed! Come solo to make new friends or bring a buddy for a memorable night out. About our co-facilitator Christy: Christy is an educator and artist who loves crafting, creating, and experimenting across many mediums, including printmaking, painting, drawing, and pottery.
