Rockaway Film Festival

Today to Sun · Queens
Rockaway Film Festival presents cinema and other arts at the coastal edge of New York City, joining artists and audiences for unique collective experiences. Rockaway Film Festival started in 2018 as a four-day experiment to bring cinema back to Rockaway, where there hadn’t been a movie theater in over thirty years. Since then, we’ve grown into a year-round organization offering screenings, live music, performances, and other opportunities for people to gather. Defined by its location between the Atlantic Ocean and Jamaica Bay, the Rockaway Peninsula is exceptional as both a barrier island with beaches and salt-water marshes — and also a city neighborhood. Our programs are informed by this distinctive landscape and our tickets are always $10 or free to make sure they’re accessible for everyone.RSVP Here

Exhibition: Contemporary Photography at Gallery 71

Tomorrow at 5pm · New York
Come enjoy this celebration of contemporary photographers both established and emerging. An opening reception will honor the work of these creatives on September 3rd from 5PM to 8PM. Artists include: Martin Ingber: "This world is full of magic: a vast variety of people, amazing environments, and those ‘decisive moments’ that vanish in an instant, only to be replaced by a constantly changing flood of new and different ones. Most of these will pass unseen; but some may be captured by a sharp-eyed street photographer, who just happens to be at the right place at the right time. And what a great feeling of discovery and creation that can be…" Joseph Podlesnik is trained mainly in drawing and painting and it is this experience which seems to influence his approach to photography. For Podlesnik, the camera lens depicts perspective too easily, which is why he captures and makes photographs which often frustrate readable perspectival space. For him, the photographic image is not only a window through which to see the visible world, but also a maker of flat surfaces which stunt or block logical space. Andrea London is an emerging New York based photographer whose work is informed by her background both as a psychotherapist and equestrian. Initially, equestrian matters dominated her photographic interest, but more recently she has broadened her practice to other subjects and genres. Her artistic goal is to capture images which express a personal view that resonates with others. Her photographs have been exhibited in galleries in the US and abroad, and published in several photography journals and books. Josh Sells is a photographer and content creator based in New York City. Specializing in creative portraiture and cocktail photography, his work has been used to create content for brands throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. His work has been published in children's books, on billboards, as well as articles in HuffPost, MarketWatch, ShoutoutLA, and Forbes.RSVP Here
