Celebrate the new home of JIJI’s Jazz Club at El Cid in Silverlake ★ A free monthly live show, open jam, & artists’ market 🎶 🎷🐈‍⬛ JIJI’s is a musical event inspired by underground jazz clubs! This month’s Club will feature the collaboration project of progressive jazz artists, STARMAKER, and jazz pianist, composer, producer KIEFER. There will be an open jam after our main performance for the community to close out the night. PERFORMANCES BY KIEFER & STARMAKER KIEFER is a Los Angeles–based pianist, producer, and composer whose music bridges jazz improvisation and hip-hop beat culture. A UCLA-trained musician with deep roots in jazz, Kiefer blends expressive piano with warm analog textures and groove-driven rhythms. He has collaborated with artists including Anderson .Paak and continues to shape the sound of modern jazz through his soulful, genre-bending work. STARMAKER is an LA-based collaboration of songwriters and instrumentalists focused on crafting progressive textures, story-driven compositions, and improvisational moments. They pull from diverse influences in contemporary jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music. Hello, Kuo Hwa Theater Family, What began as a simple community screening has grown into a full, official event — and it’s all thanks to your incredible support. 🙏❤️ PLEASE JOIN US FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2026 DOORS OPEN AT 8:00 PM EASTWOOD PERFORMANCE ART CENTER 1089 N Oxford Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90029 @eastwoodpac To kick things off properly, we’ll be presenting IN OUR TIME, a landmark film that was never shown at the original Kuo Hwa Theater. This rare screening highlights the early works of the Taiwanese masters and is widely regarded as the birth of the Taiwan New Wave Cinema. The film features four short stories from four visionary directors, capturing life from the 1950s through the 1980s: Yi Chang – Writer and director known for Kuei-mei, a Woman (1985), Jade Love (1984), and A Dog’s Life (2017). Born December 14, 1951, in Taiwan; passed away November 1, 2020. I-Chen Ko – Actor and director known for Blue Moon (1997), Life of Pi (2012), and A Piggy Tale (1991). Te-chen Tao – Director known for In Our Time (1982), The Sea Plan (1987), and That Day, on the Beach (1983). Edward Yang – A name we all know well, and a cornerstone of modern Taiwanese cinema. We are honored to host a 10–15 minute bilingual Q&A exploring the origins of Kuo Hwa Theater and the deep connections between Taiwanese New Wave cinema and the cultural landscape of the San Gabriel Valley.
