The Gotham Noir Salon

Fri at 7pm ยท New York
The Gotham Noir Salon Presented by The Delphica Society & Contra Studios Please be reminded that this is not the final list, you have to get your ticket here to be admitted: https://luma.com/kgs3vuk7 โ€‹Step into the shadows of a bygone era for an unforgettable evening of Noir Soirรฉe in the heart of New York City. โ€‹On Friday, April 17th, from 7:00 PM to 12:00 AM, The Delphica Society invites you to a private event dripping with 1940s glamour and mystery. โ€‹Very Special Guest: Tarik Sadouma โ€‹Itโ€™s a honor to welcome Tarik Sadouma, a Dutch Egyptian visual and performance artist, filmmaker, and an unmistakable presence within the Amsterdam art scene. Moving fluidly between image, performance, and cinematic form, Sadoumaโ€™s work operates as a form of inquiry into power, representation, and the structures that shape both. His practice does not settle into a single medium but instead unfolds across formats, always pushing toward a living and evolving artistic discourse. Sadouma has emerged as an international niche-celebrity through his work on the art-critical films of his former collective KIRAC, where he helped expand the boundaries between documentary, performance, and ideological critique. His work often exists in a charged space that is at once seductive and confrontational, drawing the viewer in while simultaneously questioning their position within what they are witnessing. โ€‹Set against the glittering skyline of a classic Gotham night, this exclusive gathering promises sultry rhythms, sharp wit, and cinematic intrigue. โ€‹Live entertainment will feature: โ€‹The One and ONLY legendary DJ Hector Romero. โ€‹ Tease and Trouble by Olive Tu Partie โ€‹Rhythms for the Racket by the Optional Law Ensemble & Jun Iida โ€‹Libations & Light Bites by Jason and the Chips โ€‹Expect special guests, hidden performances, and many surprises throughout the night โ€” all unfolding in a secret private venue in New York City. โ€‹Dress code leans heavily into vintage noir elegance: think fedoras, tailored suits, slinky dresses, pearls, and red lipstick. โ€‹A true night of racket, romance, and old-school intrigue awaits those who know how to keep a secret. โ€‹Our talent, mixology and culinary program for the evening: โ€‹Jun Iida โ€‹Step right up and meet Jun Iida, the bee's knees of the jazz scene! This award-winning trumpeter, composer, and educator has been blowing his horn and tickling ivories from coast to coast and across the globe. Born to Japanese immigrants in St. Louis and raised in the bustling jazz joints of Pittsburgh, this cat soaked up a medley of musical vibes before hitting the big time. โ€‹Junโ€™s got chops, folks! Heโ€™s played at swanky spots like Jazz at Lincoln Center (Shanghai), Smalls Jazz Club (NYC), and SFJazz, not to mention lighting up stages from Tokyo to Seattle and beyond. Whether heโ€™s leading the Jun Iida Group or jamming with top-notch acts like Deltron 3030 and Takuya Kuroda, Junโ€™s always cooking with gas. โ€‹But heโ€™s not just about the razzle-dazzleโ€”this cool daddy-o is also an ace mentor, teaching trumpet and running masterclasses from the West Coast to the Big Apple. With his debut album Evergreen making waves and a knack for blending cultures and sounds, Jun Iida is one hep cat you donโ€™t want to miss. Catch him while you canโ€”heโ€™s the real McCoy! โ€‹Hector Romero โ€‹Hold on to your hats, folks, because the one and only Hector Romero is bringing his legendary beats to the dance floor! From the Bronx streets to the worldโ€™s hottest clubs, โ€œBaby Hecโ€ has been spinning tracks thatโ€™ll make your feet move and your heart race. โ€‹Join us for an unforgettable night of Latin rhythms, house vibes, and hip-hop hits, all masterfully mixed by the man whoโ€™s been setting dancefloors ablaze for decades. Donโ€™t miss your chance to see the maestro in actionโ€”this partyโ€™s gonna be the catโ€™s pajamas! โ€‹Olive TuPartie โ€‹Step right up, darlings, and prepare to be dazzled! โ€‹The one and only Olive TuPartie, the queen of comedy, camp, and glamour, is taking center stage for a night of burlesque brilliance! A true star of the NYC cabaret scene, Olive brings her signature blend of neo-burlesque flair and old-Hollywood elegance to life. From The Slipper Room to Nurse Bettie, sheโ€™s been setting the city ablaze with performances thatโ€™ll leave you cheering for more. โ€‹As a performer, producer, and Master of Ceremonies, Olive TuPartie knows how to keep the party swinging and the crowd roaring. So, grab your best threads, bring your friends, and join us for a night of glittering charm, cheeky humor, and unforgettable entertainment. Donโ€™t miss the chance to see NYCโ€™s burlesque gem in actionโ€”be there or be square! โ€‹The Velvet Pour โ€‹Step into the smoky, dimly lit ambiance of Gothamโ€™s underworld, where secrets are spilled as easily as drinks are poured. The Velvet Pour will be your guides through a night of timeless libations, blending the sophistication of 1940s mixology with the mystique of a bygone noir era. Sip on handcrafted cocktails as the city's best-kept secrets come alive in every glass. โ€‹Jason and the Chips: The Midnight Feast โ€‹A culinary crew straight out of the shadows of Gothamโ€™s finest supper clubs. Jason and his team bring a touch of old-school class to every plate, crafting dishes that are as unforgettable as the cityโ€™s most intriguing mysteries. โ€‹When the clock strikes midnight and the city lights shimmer against the rain-slick streets, the night calls for something extraordinary. Enter Jason and the Chips: The Midnight Feast, where every dish tells a story of indulgence and intrigue. From savory bites to decadent desserts, this culinary team will transport you to a time when the food was as rich as the jazz and the flavors were as bold as the city itself. Prepare for a feast thatโ€™s as mysterious and captivating as Gothamโ€™s Noir nights.

CUNY Law Review Symposium โ€˜26

Friday to Saturday ยท Long Island City
RSVP HERE NOT ON PARTIFUL: https://tinyurl.com/48kxcc8r On April 17 (6-9PM) & April 18 (9AM-5PM), CUNY Law Review is hosting a two-day symposium titled "The City is Ours: Law, Direct Democracy, and Radical Municipalism in NYC." At this symposium, we will explore how communities in New York City can reimagine governance at the municipal levelโ€”from tenant unions and mutual aid, to participatory budgeting and neighborhood assembliesโ€”and examine what role legal advocates can play in building and sustaining community power. In the wake of Mayor Zohran Mamdaniโ€™s historic victory, we hope to build on the years of mutual aid, tenant organizing, and popular mobilization in response to deepening inequality and state inaction that made this moment possible. As such, through panels and participatory workshops, we have dedicated our symposium to collectively imagining a world in which cities serve as sites of shared governance, material security, and democratic participation. Join us as we gather scholars, activists, and attorneys at the forefront of this discussion, and share your own voice as we chart a new path forward for NYC! Panel themes include: -Radical Municipalism: Theory, History, and Law -Mutual Aid and Community Power -Tenant Power: Housing Justice and Unionizing -Radical Municipalism and Economic Democracy -Participatory Democracy: From Budgeting to Neighborhood Assemblies If you have any questions about the symposium, please contact Colleen Chung at colleen.chung@live.law.cuny.edu ๐Ÿ‘‰ Follow us for updates: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cunylawreview LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cuny-law-review

ABOUT LITTLE SALLY Born and raised just outside of Detroit, Little Sally was steeped in the Motown sound early on, thanks to her grandparents Bob and Karen. That foundation deepened during her college years in Detroitโ€™s Cass Corridor, where underage nights (sorry mom!) at Soul Deep Fridays (hosted by the incredible collector and historian Mike Dutkewych) sparked a lifelong obsession with soul music and dance floor fun. Now Brooklyn-based for over a decade, Little Sally (aka Hope Morawa) smashes her love of hometown oldies and her party-throwing instincts together on the dance floor.
