Hidden behind a set of unassuming gates in Central Park lies a pristine lawn bowling green few New Yorkers even know exists. For nearly a century, members of a private club have gathered here to play a sport whose origins stretch back over 800 years, preserving a tradition rarely seen by the public. Now’s your chance to step onto these historic lawns, learn the game, and try your hand at lawn bowling firsthand.
Join New York Adventure Club for a private workshop where you’ll learn and play the game of lawn bowling with the New York Lawn Bowling Club, one of the oldest clubs of its kind in the United States, nestled within the historic grounds of Central Park.
- Led by a staff member of the New York Lawn Bowling Club, our unique sporting experience will include:
- A brief history of lawn bowling, tracing its origins over 800 years ago and how the game has evolved across different countries and cultures
- An overview of the New York Lawn Bowling Club, and how its founders secured nearly an acre of land in Central Park for their lawn bowling greens in 1926
- A rundown of how to play lawn bowling, including how to properly hold and roll the ball, along with key rules and variations from around the world
-The opportunity to play a friendly game of lawn bowling, competing alongside fellow adventurers in a relaxed and welcoming setting
