Regal Seagull Album Release Party

Tomorrow at 7pm · Medford
Friends the time has come, the moment you've been waiting for, Regal Seagull is finally releasing our debut album - MOUTH SOUNDS. We've worked hard, done irreparable damage to our hearing, and generally behaved foolishly to make this record. Some may say it's incredible, and we would let them say that. That said, we'd like to assure you that this album is in fact very credible. It has nine songs, each of which are real and true. (They make sounds when you click them on your phone and you can skip them and everything.) The point we haven't quite made until now is that we want to celebrate this wonderful release with you, our dear friends and community. What better way to celebrate the release of MOUTH SOUNDS than by standing in a room making mouth sounds together? Sounds with our mouths, that is. So- please join us, please bring a pal, let's get loud about it 🤘🤘🤘. We are psyched to be joined by Lesser Birds and 37 Houses - and will be featuring some surprise special guests. Artist Keagan Marcella will also be showing some of his work, including the album artwork! Tickets at https://link.dice.fm/5XPLPgmN13b or deepcuts.rocks

collective effervescence ~summer swap~

Next Sun at 2pm · Somerville
Welcome back to summOre Collective Effervescence ! We believe in being part of the good loops of circularity by reusing items and and sharing our skills so we all continue to learn from, grow alongside, and inspire one another. You are invited to our afternoon summer swap: a park day filled with creativity and inspiration: giving items new lives, practicing sustainability in action by diverting and donating items from landfills, and learning and hanging out with others picnicking and listening to music. Activations of the day include: ~Community Closet~ where you can come with items to be swapped or donated. Bring formerly loved clothing, accessories, and shoes in good condition or that have a plan to be mended. All genders and sizes of clothing are welcome. Please get in touch with us if you’d like to do a teaching of how to do a repair or mending class for items. All items that are not traded or claimed will be donated to our neighbors in need. ~ a live block printing activation. Perhaps you have a plain shirt or item that you would like a collective effervescence stamp or maybe it’s your day to bring along tye dye or other natural dyes/ shirt markers/ etc. to the shirt making table. We will also be swapping loved books, propagations of plants or seeds, tinctures/ oils, or just things that you are willing to part ways with. Gently used art supplies can be donated to local Cambridge/ Somerville businesses or with others in the community. There are so many things that need the right person or right day to come together to be used! This is the day! As always, we welcome you to bring your nourishing dishes, your music, your art, your presence, and your full hearts and spirits. Bring a friend to share and mend, or come as you are! 🌀

Electric Desi Rave Boston

Fri, Oct 2 at 9pm · Cambridge
RSVP for tickets right when they come out! Boston, our very first event is bouta be crazyyyy! You dont want to miss this 😌 Who We Are: We are not a “Bollywood event.” We are a collective pushing boundaries and fusing rave culture with South Asian identity, built on music, energy, and community. Whether you’ve been in the rave scene for years or you’re just stepping into it, this is a space to actually feel the music in a new way, not just hear it. At the core of everything we do is PLUR — Peace, Love, Unity, Respect. It’s not just a slogan. It’s the standard we hold ourselves to. We look out for each other, respect the space, and make sure everyone around us feels safe and included. We have zero tolerance for harassment, aggression, or anything that makes others feel unsafe. Anyone who disrupts the space will be removed immediately, no exceptions. We genuinely care about the people in this room. We want you to feel free, safe, and fully present, and to leave with a night you’ll actually remember. Welcome to Electric Desi 🫶🏽

Machina Memoriae — Opening Reception

Fri, Aug 21 at 6pm · Cambridge
Opening reception for Lauren Safier's new exhibition: Machina Memoriae. Safier's work draws on the language of industrial machine catalogs, where a mechanism's exact form is conveyed through technical illustration. She translates this method into a historiographic practice concerned with what survives in a record and what disappears. Her source is a 1911 catalog documenting the machines of the Blake and Knowles Steam Pump Works, once housed at this address. That same year, twenty-five women working in the foundry's core rooms became the subject of a state inquiry, prompted by male coworkers and journalists unsettled by the sight of them at work. What remains of them is only that account, written by others. Across her paintings and sculptures, Safier reimagines the historical record as an unstable chain of retellings, resisting the idea that history or memory could ever be continuous, or fully legible. The Foundry, 101 Rogers Street, Cambridge Friday, August 21, 6–8pm Complimentary food and drink provided by Dar Cafe

Oil Portraiture Bootcamp

Jun 27 to Aug 8 · Somerville
This 6 week class will guide students through the time honored traditions of layered portrait painting! We will learn about the range of materials and their application in a step by step painting process. Indirect Oil Painting is a time tested methodical approach to painting in successive layers to achieve specific natural effects. Students will focus on both paint handling and drawing with value. The students will begin with a full grisaille (black and white) underpainting, and then begin to build their color layers through mindful application of paint and medium. Our goal is a portrait with both structure and presence.   ***We will skip the week of July 4th***
