Outdoor Picnic & Live Music

Thu at 5:30pm · Cambridge
🌞 Boston Babes: CX Summer Nights 🎶✨ Summer nights, but make it a Boston Babes function. 💋 We’re heading to Cambridge Crossing for CX Summer Nights — an outdoor summer concert with live music, lawn games, food trucks, drinks, and absolutely ZERO dollars required for entry. Because we love a hot girl activity that is also financially responsible. 💅🏻 *** I highly recommend getting here a little early to grab a spot and bring a cozy blanket!! *** Grab your girls, throw on your favorite summer outfit, and come hang with us on the lawn for an evening of live music, good food, drinks, and "wait, why don't we do this every week?" energy. 🌇🍹🎶 We'll be catching Jake Swamp and the Pine + Adam Ezra Group and making the most of one of those perfect late-summer Boston evenings before we inevitably start pretending it's not getting dark at 7:30. 🥲 Come solo. Bring your bestie. Come meet some new babes. The whole point is to show up, hang out, and make a summer night out of it. 💌 📍 Cambridge Crossing — The Common at CX 🎶 Live music 🍔 Food trucks 🍹 Local drinks 🎲 Lawn games 🐶 Dog-friendly 💸 FREEEEEE Dress code: whatever makes you feel like the main character on a warm August evening. ☀️✨ Let's make the most of summer while we still can. 🥂

Machina Memoriae — Opening Reception

Fri at 6pm · Cambridge
Opening reception for Lauren Safier's new exhibition: Machina Memoriae. Safier's work draws on the language of industrial machine catalogs, where a mechanism's exact form is conveyed through technical illustration. She translates this method into a historiographic practice concerned with what survives in a record and what disappears. Her source is a 1911 catalog documenting the machines of the Blake and Knowles Steam Pump Works, once housed at this address. That same year, twenty-five women working in the foundry's core rooms became the subject of a state inquiry, prompted by male coworkers and journalists unsettled by the sight of them at work. What remains of them is only that account, written by others. Across her paintings and sculptures, Safier reimagines the historical record as an unstable chain of retellings, resisting the idea that history or memory could ever be continuous, or fully legible. The Foundry, 101 Rogers Street, Cambridge Friday, August 21, 6–8pm Complimentary food and drink provided by Dar Cafe

「Deep Listening: The Story Of Pauline Oliveros」

Today at 4:30pm · Somerville
Nomi and Zilu are hosting this watch party of Daniel Weintraub's Pauline Oliveros documentary together with excitement, respect, and love for Pauline. Dr. Nomi Epstein (she/her) is a composer, curator, and certified Deep Listening® Practitioner. More about Nomi: https://nomiepstein.com/ Zilu Wang (she/her) is a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC), an improviser, and a community organizer. More about Zilu: https://www.instagram.com/ziluwang_june/ Zilu was Nomi's student at Berklee College of Music in the class of "Sounding Pauline Oliveros". We read her essays, practiced deep listening exercises, and embodied three modalities of it (sound, movement, and dream). It was a powerful and fruitful experience to connect with sounds in a refreshing and deep way, a whole-body and all-awareness way. We would love to invite you to join us for this experience by watching her documentary. Pauline Oliveros (1932-2016) "Her life as a composer, performer and humanitarian was about opening her own and others' sensibilities to the universe and facets of sounds. Her career spanned fifty years of boundary dissolving music making. In the '50s she was part of a circle of iconoclastic composers, artists, poets gathered together in San Francisco. In the 1960's she influenced American music profoundly through her work with improvisation, meditation, electronic music, myth and ritual." (Pauline Oliveros' website) You can read more about her here: https://paulineoliveros.us/

have you ever wanted to learn how to play american mahjong? we’re here to teach other young people how to play! our credentials: bobbi is an elementary school teacher and maya is going to grad school to be a childrens’ librarian 😎 Bobbi went to Jewish Day School and got an A+ in Mahjong when she was 11. Maya has been playing at home since she was 10. this two hour session will include going over the basics of mahjong: learning the tiles, learning the 2026 NMJL card, learning the rules of basic gameplay, and then some practice rounds! since mahjong is a 4 person game, our max is 8 people (we have 2 tables). HOWEVER if we have a ton of interest we will think about expanding 😮😮
