A lot of queer people never really got the chance to fully express ourselves as our fully realized selves growing up. So I wanted to create a Picture Day for us now. A space to document who we are, who we’ve become, and the versions of ourselves we dreamed about for so long. Come in your best whatever-that-means-to-you. Dress up, be soft, be bold, be sexy, be playful, be fully yourself. I want to capture the queer joy we carry and preserve this moment in time together. This will be a community portrait event with a backdrop, music, candid moments, and eventually a yearbook-style archive with “Most Likely To…” superlatives and community pages spotlighting the people and spaces that shape us. No experience needed! Then, you’ll create your very own reversible origami tote from start to finish. We will guide you through choosing fabrics, cutting, and constructing. Join us in learning the ancestral art of pine needle basketry in this hands-on workshop. Using locally and responsibly sourced natural materials, you'll learn the key beginner techniques to be able to weave your very own beautiful, functional basket. You'll be starting your basket with a drilled base, using a pine branch "tree cookie" which is considered to be more beginner-friendly and accessible than the traditional coil start. We'll be using pine needles sourced by hand from Marin, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties.
