Make a Friend Picnic - Dolores Park

Sat, Sep 12 at 12:30pm · San Francisco
Update: this is officially becoming a monthly thing. The first one got so big we ran out of blanket space. Everyone walked away with full hearts and a little sunburnt. I'm still new to the Bay, and this is still the most extroverted thing an introvert can dream up: inviting a pile of strangers to come sit in the grass with me. My social battery is finite. My love of people, picnics, and the specific magic of introducing two people who end up becoming real friends is not. So here I am again, being brave, inviting you to Mission Dolores Park. Bring your own picnic setup: a blanket, drinks, snacks, whatever makes sitting in the grass feel a little luxurious. I'll either be the redhead having a solo picnic reading something objectively terrible on Kindle Unlimited, or the redhead surrounded by people looking a little overwhelmed because this happened again. Athena, my dog, will be there too, asking you to throw her ball or slip her a snack. She has no shame about it. Either way, come say hi.

Can I Get a Witness? Open Mic

Sun at 5pm · Oakland
CIGAW is ONE YEAR OLD 🥳🥳🥳🥳💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾Come celebrate the open mic that’s healing social isolation one mic at a time!! Can I Get a Witness? (CIGAW) is the first open mic of its kind, because after each poem we talk about it. We talk about what emotions came up, what resonates, and how our individual experiences relate to larger conditions. Some call it “poetic aftercare”, we call it a poetry witnessing circle. Here’s how it works: 🎤 open mic list with 8-10 poets. 🎤 Poets can share for up to 5mins. 🎤After each poem the room speaks back for 3-5mins. We have a few rules to keep the evening cute/supportive: 🚫 no Advice 🚫 no Scores 🚫 no Critiques ⭐️⭐️⭐️The goal is engage in meaningful conversation rooted in the themes found in the poets work—which typically hits different for each listener. During the event we provide “Ways We Witness”and “Optional Speaking Prompts” that keep the container supportive for both the performers and the audience. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, RSVP and tell a loved one. See you there 💃🏾✨ Your donation helps make this effort sustainable. Thank you! ☀️

Dane + The Ronnie Blaze Band @ The Faight

Sat, Sep 5 at 7pm · San Francisco
Party people!!! 🍷🎉💗 We have a very special show for you on Saturday, September 5th at the Faight Collective 🧡 Dane plays heartfelt alternative pop-rock, drawing inspiration from confessional lyricists like Lana Del Rey and sonic inspiration from bands like Mazzy Star. Ronnie Blaze Band is an iconic San Francisco band. Following the end of the pandemic, Ronnie Blaze emerged onto the San Francisco Bay Area club and open mic circuit. Happily paying his dues in half empty dive bars and supper clubs as a sideman to Mike Dingle and his Third Thursday Band, he marinated in one of Rock and Roll’s most storied cities. These experiences have left him well seasoned and hungry to prove himself, which he does on his debut single named after that city by the bay: San Francisco. This show is also commemorating Dane’s release of their first song- Between Me and The High. Be there, bring friends and be ready to PARTY!!! LOVE U 💥

A Very Odysserious Run

Sat, Sep 19 at 9:30am · San Francisco
13.1 miles home. give or take ten years. ⏳ You won a war ⚔️🐴. Achilles you're not, but by the gods you're going to jog all 13.1 miles 🏃‍♂️💨 home. One problem: Poseidon 🔱🌊 is chasing you on foot, personally furious, trident in hand, cardio unfairly good. This is nothing per-sea-nal 🌊. It's extremely per-sea-nal. 😤 You are NOBODY 🫥. Everyone is NOBODY 🫥. Wear a bedsheet 🛏️ — it's a toga now. 🏛️ Reach Ithaca 🏝️ Then we cold plunge 🧊🥶, because 13.1 miles later our bodies are Trojan-horse-d 🐴 and freezing water is the only dignified response. 🫡 🏛️ 13.1 miles · 🩹 Toga encouraged · 🔱 Poseidon is a dude we're hiring to chase you · ⚰️

veotis/angelie @ adobe books

Sat at 7:30pm · San Francisco
Vol.10: featuring Veotis. Singer, composer and multi instrumentalist from the bay, Veotis has a knack for cultivating tasteful grooves and well crafted production and performances. His warm presence is always felt on stage. I remember listening to his music for the first time and was impressed by its quality. His live performances are equally satisfying. Excited for this one. featuring ANGELIE. Listening to Angelie for the first time, it was immediately apparent how much care and time she has put into her craft. While Angelie draws a lot of her influence from Brazilian music, she has a unique voice and expression in her music coming from many other genres and sounds. I am particularly excited for this arrangement Both sets will be accompanied by great musicians. Veotis set: 9:15p Veotis Latchison (keys, vox) Remee Ashley (trombone) Zack Sanders (guitar) Dana Roth (bass) Jaycie Grady (drums) ANGELIE set : 8:15p Angelie Zambrano (acoustic guitar, vox) Sam Bramer (guitar) Leela Paymai (double bass) Rabiah Kabir (flute) Lights: Charis Lam Visuals: John Joseph Audio: Austin Tumacder, Alex Gitau, Jason Lee Adobe Books is a non profit, volunteer-run, comfy bookshop in the Mission district in San Francisco that boasts a diverse selection of genres & a back art gallery in a light-filled interior. American mahjong for beginners (lesson 1)

Today at 6:30pm · San Francisco
Hi! This is a beginner friendly lesson for American style mahjong, all are welcome! I can teach up to 8 at a time. Mahjong does take a few hours to learn, so it’s broken up over a few weeks, but we will make it fun! I’m going to start teaching on Thursdays and Sundays. So if you can’t make Thursday one week, you can come Sunday or vice versa. After lessons one and two we can do guided play, and then hopefully make it a regular thing! What to bring: I will have a mahjong set and cards for us all to use. I also have printed out cheat sheets for you to take home and practice online. If you want to bring anything, drinks or snacks for the group are always fun:)

Bay Paddle Day

Sat, Aug 29 at 10am · Oakland
🌊☀️ Bay Paddle Day ☀️🌊 Who’s ready for a day on the water? 🩵 We’re planning a paddle day around the Bay Area, and we’d love for you to join us! 📍 Location: Near Oakland (exact launch location coming soon!) 🗓️ Current Date: Saturday, August 29 Please note: We’re scouting the location beforehand to make sure it’s a great spot with easy parking and plenty of space. The location—and possibly the date—may change based on what we find, so stay tuned for updates! Whether you paddleboard, kayak, or just want to spend the day hanging out by the water, come join us! 🚣 Bring Your Own Adventure Bring whatever gets you out on the water: 🏄 Paddleboard 🛶 Kayak 🚤 Any human-powered watercraft 🏖️ Or simply come relax by the shore and enjoy the day! If you don’t have your own equipment, let us know! Between us, we have a few extras that may be available to borrow. We’ll do our best to help everyone get out on the water. I also posted about a rental spot nearby! 🌞 Don’t Forget 💧 Water 🧴 Sunscreen 🧢 Hat & sunglasses 🥪 Snacks or lunch 🏖️ Towel 👕 A change of clothes (you never know! 😂) This is all about getting outside, exploring a new spot, meeting new people, and enjoying a relaxing day on the water. No experience necessary—whether it’s your first time or you’re out every weekend, everyone is welcome! 💙 RSVP Requested Please RSVP so we have an idea of who’s coming and can coordinate equipment if anyone needs to borrow a paddleboard or kayak. We’ll send out the final location and any updates after we scout the area. Looking forward to a fun day on the water! 🌊☀️ 🌊 Important Safety Update As this event has grown, I wanted to clarify a few things. This is an informal community meetup, not a guided tour, lesson, or professionally organized event. There will be no instructors, lifeguards, safety staff, or rescue support. Everyone attends and participates at their own risk and is responsible for making their own decisions about whether conditions are appropriate for them. If you plan to paddle, please: * Be able to swim. * Be comfortable in open water. * Be capable of managing yourself and your equipment without relying on others. * Bring and wear appropriate safety gear, including a properly fitted life jacket. If you’re new to paddleboarding, not comfortable swimming, or aren’t confident in ocean conditions yet, I’d love for you to still come hang out on the beach, meet everyone, and enjoy the community! There will absolutely be opportunities to socialize without getting on the water. Please use your own judgment regarding ocean and weather conditions before participating. If at any point you don’t feel comfortable, it’s always okay to sit this one out. Looking forward to seeing everyone and having a fun, safe day together! 💙

Matcha Society: Halloween Edition🎃🍵

Sat, Oct 24 at 1pm · San Francisco
Spooky season calls for a slightly different Matcha Society meetup 🎃🍵 This time we’re heading to Karma Cafe, a cozy café known for going all-in on seasonal decorations, including Halloween 👻. They’ve also offered pumpkin spice and other seasonal drinks in past fall seasons, so whether you’re a matcha person, coffee person, or just want something sweet, there should be plenty to choose from. We’ll grab our drinks, hang out at the café for a bit, and then walk over to the Panhandle 🌳. Once we’re there, we’ll go with the group’s vibe and either pull out conversation cards to get to know each other better or play some board games together. You’re also welcome to bring a book, draw, journal, take photos, or just relax with everyone. And because it’s Halloween, come dressed up! 🎃 It can be a full costume, something silly, spooky makeup, cat ears, or even just a small Halloween accessory. No need to go all out unless you want to. Come alone or bring a friend. The whole point is to spend a cozy October Saturday meeting people over something good to drink. 👻✨

LOVE U 💥
